24-Hour Event

Why a 24 hour event?

A day on Twitter does not last for 24 hours.  Rather it feels like a 36 hour day as we go from sunrise to sunset across the globe.  The changing over of timezones is an integral part of the Twitter experience.  Instead of Good Morning New York.  It is "Good Morning New York, Good Afternoon London and Good Night Tokyo."

Hence, we thought it'll be fun to simulate that experience with an online storytelling event.  As the first round of submissions draws to a close in early September, the stories shared in videos and other media, will be released around the clock on a selected date, to be announced shortly.  Everyone gets to watch the videos online, rate them, comment on them and most of all tweet about them.

So if you submit your videos earlier, just know that we will be releasing them later on as part of this round the clock event.

The round the clock storytelling event also calls to mind the story cycles of the great literary traditions, like A Thousand and One Nights, in which the virgin bride tells the Persian King a fresh tale every night in order to stay her execution the next morning.

This 24 hour event is a microcosm of what Twitter users around the world do: share stories big and small about their daily lives, 140 characters at a time. It may seem silly and mundane to people who don't use the micro-blog service but it is a form of sustenance for those who enjoy telling and re-telling those bite-size stories from day to day.

So do stay tuned as we will announce the date of this event soon. Come join us with your popcorn and snacks and, of course, get ready to tweet about the videos and the event.
