Twitter Documentary FAQ

Is there a deadline for submissions? Are you still accepting submissions?

The deadline for phase I of submissions was 30th Nov 2009. But we welcome fresh submissions on a rolling basis as the documentary is currently still in production. So if you have a great story or video to share, feel free to send it in!

Why would I want to take part?

The short answer is: it is FUN!  The long answer: you get to be part of a groundbreaking project that will  immortalize Twitter on film.

If your stories and videos are included in the film, you will be credited as a contributor.  In the "do-it-ourselves" spirit, the finished film will be shared with all Twitter users under a creative commons license.

How do I create an account on the website?

If you have a Twitter account, you can simply login with your Twitter ID and password. The other option is to access the website with your OpenID.

Why do I need to fill out your website, can’t I just send you a tweet?

If you have a great story, you can tweet it to us @twittamentary. Find out more here.

By registering on the website, not only can you say much more but you can also embed existing videos and photos that illustrate why yours is a great story.  You can also record a web cam video and upload original videos from your computer.

Besides, people can also rate, comment on and maybe even add to your story!

What should I include in my story submission?

We ask every Twitter user to tell us a great story that answers this question: What is the most interesting thing that happened to you because of Twitter? Mention the names and Twitter IDs of key protagonists in the story.  Embed existing Youtube videos and photos that illustrate why this makes a great story for a documentary.

What kinds of “Twitter videos” should I upload?

  • Click on “Upload Your Twitter Videos” and you can record a web cam video. Watch sample clip here.
  • Introduce your yourself, your name, your Twitter ID, what you do in real life and when you first started using Twitter.
  • Tell us a great story about what happened to you because of Twitter.  Mention other people involved, their names and Twitter IDs.
  • If you have an original video that helps illustrate your story, for example video of an event mentioned in the story, you can also upload it.

Is it ok if we submit a story without uploading videos?

We love video material of course. But yes, you can submit a story with text and links only and we will still consider your ideas.

What will happen after the story and videos have been submitted? Will you come and film us?

If we are interested in your story, we will approach you via Twitter or email to develop the story further and even do a detailed Skype video interview.  Since Twitter users are scattered all over the globe, it is unlikely that we will travel to where you are to film although we would love to!

Can I nominate another story or person to feature in the documentary?

Yes you can, in fact many have done exactly that! Please see an example here.
